Amrithadhara Goushala - Gouloka, Bajakudlu

Shree Shree Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji started Amrithdhara Goushala at Gouloka, Bajakudlu, Perla in Kasaragod district in 2004 to protect and popularize Kasaragod Gidda cows. Kasaragod Dwarf cows are the symbol of healthy living through zero input farming. The small size of these Goumathas is ideal for small farmers of India. They take minimum food and give high valued Panchagavya.

Amruthadhara Goushala eco-friendly Goushala provides a lot of space for the cattle to move around and fulfill their needs. The relationship between humans and cows is very friendly and intimate. The cow is considered as a sacred & holy animal in Hindu religion. We worship cow on various occasions and we call them Goumata.

In this goushala hundreds of Cows are served here with natural environment. As the number of cows increased day by day and to extend our activities of cow protection movement we have purchased 8.12 acres of land.

Amruthadhara Goushala mission is to protect desi cows and increase the awareness in people about the desi cows and cow products. This Goushala attracts people for special medicines and social work. Also here one more attraction that is ‘Bangari’ cow. This is nominated as world’s shortest cow. The dwarfness comes from its genes. It belongs to native “Kasaragod” breed.

Some of achievements:

  • Panchagavya products development:
    Shamana Taila(Pain oil), Himagiri Kesha Taila(Shampoo), Cleannail(nail cleaner), Shodashi(tooth powder), Gousaravati(tablet)
  • NABARD project to do basic survey, training and arranging financial help to the farmers.
  • The little wonder Bangari got entry in the Limca Book of Records as smallest cow.
  • Breed Savior Award at NBAGR Karnal Haryana.
  • Different public programmes.
  • Financial help from ATMA for research and development of Kasaragod breed.
  • Financial help from Karnataka Bank for upgradation.
  • Distribution of good Kasaragod cows to more than thousand farmers.

India is well known for its valuable treasures and living values.  Indigenous cows are in front line in this list and are called as a Goumatha. Goumatha gives everything to the farmers from fuel to manure and medicine to food.

In recent years we are losing one by one cow breeds in our country, from nearly 100 breeds to around 35 breeds. Some breeds like Vechur, Kasaragod, Krishnateera, Sindhi, Punganur etc are at the verge of extinction. Kasaragod breed is seen in Kasaragod district of Kerala state. You can say it is very difficult to get a good pure bread Kasaragod cow in Kasaragod itself.

These cows are ideal for small farmers/houses because of their dwarf size. They weigh less than 100kg and the height is less than 1 meter. They take minimum food. They don’t need costly cattle feeds. The folklores say that these cows can be maintained with the kitchen waste itself. Instead they give highly valued urine and dung. Actually these cows are maintained only for manure. Whatever milk is got, it is considered as bonus.
